Components needed and some advantages

Hi there this week my task was starting preparations for implementing the wireless network. With this being said it is now time to select the components needed to successfully implement this network. The 6 main components that we have selected include:
  • UBIQUITI UniFi access points (APs)
  • ethernet cables
  • drill with a 6mm fitting
  • station of control for the APs
  • power over ethernet (POE) switches
  • 48v to 24v converters
Each of these components all fit together to accomplish the task of implementing the wireless in that the UBIQUITI Unifi APs provide the wireless, the ethernet cables are used to transfer data to the UniFi APs which convert the data from wired to wireless, the drill is for the installation of the Unifi APs, the station of control for the APs is the machine on which the UniFi software will be installed. At this station persons with the authenticity will be able to login and manage ALL UniFi APs from one location. We must note that once a UniFi AP is managed by a machine you cannot manage it from another machine unless you have transferred this management to this other station of control meaning that an AP can only be managed by one station at any given time. The POE switches will be used to provide the power to the UniFi APs over the ethernet cables. This has two advantages:
  1. we will have the ability to position the UniFi APs at the best suitable positions within the site to maximize the signal strength at which users can connect to these APs
  2. it eliminates the constraint of having to place the UniFi APs next to power sockets to gain power which can cause lost of signal due to bad positioning
And last but not least the 48v to 24v converters which will be used with the UniFi APs to convert the 48v power produced by the POE switches to 24v allowing us the ability to use a 24v UniFi AP with a 48v POE switch. Seeing as the maximum voltage that can be used with the UniFi APs is 24v we are going to be using 18v converter which is also produced by UBIQUITI. That was the end of my week 6 until next time l8r.
