AS ONE DOOR CLOSES ... ANOTHER ONE IS OPENING
I think whether we like it or not, life is designed for you
to make a series of choices that will
either help you or hurt you so it is paramount your decision making whether resulting
in good or bad always are stepping stones to where you want to be and I can say
MicroMacro Internship Programme has definitely been a stepping stone for me. Over
the past 12 weeks you would have heard me speak about Commercial Sales Pitch,
Database Management, S.E.E.D (Small Enterprises for Education and Development,
Networking, Volunteering, Communication made easier by the internet. Seems like
I have told you everything but what I haven’t told you about is The POS People
environment and family staff.
On any given day the first thing that stands out is the atmosphere
within the office; it is calm and I’m always a little half asleep until the
radio comes on and the office is suddenly filled with rhythm and then Ms.
Alleyne (Sales and Marketing nicknamed the networker ) adds the tap tap of the
phone numbers and suddenly there is ringing, Ms. Andaiye Caddle (Technical extraordinaire)
steps in and brings more light, literally she turns on the light, to the
office; sets up the computer and is ready for work, Ms. Alicia White (Office
Manager) comes in dressed to impress and illuminates the front desk and is
ready for customers with a genuine smile on her face and in her voice. Mr.
Watson (Owner/ Captain) has a smile on his face and is already giving
motivational sayings to everyone which adds perspective to your day while also motivating
you; every single one of these persons has a rhythm that comes together, those
individual beats harmonise and creates a symphony that is so excellent and
inspiring, it blows your mind; almost like an earthquake in your mind.
I think you get my meaning and without further ado, here are
my favourite quotes, sayings and memories:
“I’ve been so blessed
in my life to go to some of the most amazing places and meet people and when I
looked in their library these guys had the same books I was reading…I find
people here don’t like to read self help but you know they are really good books…go
on the net man and read them.”~ Mr. Watson
“I don’t give my customers good service, I give them
outstanding service.”~ Mr. Watson
“Jack of all trades; master of none” ~ Ms.Caddle
“You have to know where you are going and volunteer or do
something that helps you get there….don’t pass up the little jobs.” ~ Ms.
Caddle
“O Lord give us strength.” ~ Ms. Alleyne
“I set goals for myself [to achieve] by a certain time and you know things happen
but you don’t stop girl…if it is something you like doing you just do it.” ~
Ms. White
I remember saying POS People stands for Point of Sale, we
specialise in cashiers, point of sale systems, money detectors; we are located
in Barbarees Hill, next to R.L.Seale, go up the incline there is a sign of on
the building saying “POS People”.
I have also learned the following from everyone:
- If you want to do something or you have an idea it is better to try than to have not attempted it at all.
- Business is not a stable entity and entrepreneurship is dedication, determination, commitment and having excellent professionals for sustainability of any business.
- Sometimes you have to step outside the box you have created.
- Building customer relationships is a must in any economy no matter the condition or state it is in.
- No matter what area of business you are involved in; the key is planning and hard work.
- Life is for the living.
Lastly Jenai Mapp-Watson (Founder of Social Initiatives) has
all made this possible and she is always hard at work and always creating new
ideas. It was a pleasure to work with someone that is focused, fun and so well
spoken. Jenai always said a quote by Winston Churchhill ,“there are lies, there
are damn lies, then there are statisticians”. I am saying “THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!”
to everyone; I have certainly learned and gained additional skills to carry
with me confidently into the future.
