My Mind’s Eye
The mornings were overcast and
breezy this week, I daresay a pleasant distraction from the heat and aid in relaxing me for the coming brunch chat. And sitting there was Dr. Daisley who is a licenced life couch.
And many of you will say; a life couch… so what exactly does a life couch do?…and
I imagine you asking that sceptically. According to Mr. Daisley, life couching is
concerned with not only helping persons’ professional careers but also helping
persons develop personally; in other words there must be a balance in your professional and personal life, that is, there
should be holism. Body, mind and spirit should be in sync in order to achieve
continuous development. He proposed that business is an erratic being, it is
always changing and proposes that because business is always changing there is
need to destroy the box that we and sometimes others put us in that act as a
barrier and limitation. So destroy the box and while your doing that unlearn
the things that stifle your creativity and that annoying repetitive “you can’t
do that”. Yup he proposes that create your “flubber” box, that is, a box that
is created on the concept that you know what your goals are, the path to
achieving them, acceptance, confidence and determination because this “flubber”
box is one factor in achieving your goals.
Dr.Daisley stated the “Things I
Wish I Knew” list which grabbed my attention and I admit I listened wholeheartedly to
these tips and will continue to get tips through his "Think and Prosper Personal Development" facebook page.
- I wish I had an established advisory board. You should have someone that is in the field you wish to enter. This should be someone that is passionate about their job, established and has an abundance of expertise that can be passed on to you.
- I wish I had a mentor. Mentors are those persons that have skills but also invest in you to help you achieve your objectives. You get a look at their past and in turn they help you avoid the difficulties that they would have experience and help you to overcome challenges smartly and they are your cheerleaders. This means that they motivate you and push you to keep moving when you think you're stuck. According to Dr. Daisley “mentors show their past and help you embrace your future”.
- Business is like a child. Business is all about practicality. The child needs to be feed, burp, bathe and changed, when they get a fever you have to ascertain the illness so you need to carry them to the doctor and give them medication. You need to treat business like a child, you have difficulties arising in business and the only way to handle them is to deal with them practically. You have a potential customer, you schedule them in you google calendar so you get reminders to remember that customer.
