The first assignment we got was to do cold calls to small businesses to get them interested and involved in SEED. While it was a task I would have avoided after a while and a few calls I think the task serves to get you out of your shell and not be intimidated when interacting with various people as well as managing your emotions with uncouth business people. I found it also showed me a lot about communication and the times where communication media did not work how to get around those issues.
Going into an internship where you are not going to be paid (or may not be offered a job in the end) and seeing the tasks that are required of you may give the impression that you are being exploited and while I was apprehensive at first, my attitude quickly changed. My attitude changed for these reasons:
1. Resume wise it looks really good
2. It's only 2 and a half hours a day for two days a week. honestly... what kind of money would you get from those kind of hours?( depends on the task and its usage maybe?)
3. The anticipation of the prizes... wonder what those are
4. Team mates- even though you are working for two and a half hours you always have help
The only thing I would change is the introduction of a bus fare allowance. I think that might smooth over the idea of an unpaid internship with parents a bit more.
