SECOND WEEK
Expectations
Kiddies Kadooment was the most memorable experience for Week:2 due to my 18th birthday on the same day and it being my second location shoot with Studio Studio. Moreover, it was my first Crop Over 2016 event!
I witnessed flamboyant colours and high energies, videography, presenters and the audience, in real time, like a behind the scenes shoot. Also, observing working outside of the studio, with clients of all sizes and learned the camera.
On Monday, July 18th, Miss. Adrina Alleyne-Pile talked to us about the chiselling effects of burdens and pain. Her entire presentation was delivered standing due to her condition, one that left her scared but strengthened her for many years. I realized that unexpected, unfortunate and debilitating events allowed you to develop in life, taking you right back to the path you were destined to be on. However, if these events are seen as setbacks, the skills and knowledge you could have learned, will be lost. So, she encouraged us to see the positives in the preconceived negatives. I made her life lessons my new life motto,
"In everything I will allow myself to see what I can improve to get out of the rut, instead of being frustrated about what I cannot change. I will form an understanding that pain makes you stronger. Balance is key so stay patient, courageous, faithful, enthusiastic and healthy."
Her opening lines were,
"Don't let the haters get to you and these may even be your parents and friends."
On work ethics, she recommended we know when, where and how to apply our skills by being humble or to smile and nod versus forcing your work colleagues to do it your way.
Rolling along, 10:45 am brought in one of the sharpest blades in Bim, Adrian Greene and he spoke on Public Speaking. It was a round table discussion on proper utilization of tone, words and body language for effective communication and self confidence for stage presence.
Friday 22nd July, Troy Holder, Marilyn Browne and Cherise Gibson reiterated the point of "Self".
Mr. Holder talked about ourselves in community, getting realistic answers from us by using teenage struggles to introduce his points. We defined business ethics and etiquette as labours and bussing entrepreneurs. While suggesting we stop judging on all social platforms.
Marilyn Browne gave a quote,
"In all our deeds, the proper value and respect for time determines success or failure."
Malcom XHis words tied in perfectly to her topic, "Time Management", where she discussed attitude to time by compartmentalization and prioritizing. I asked her how to maintain your health and her response was a question that I wish to ask all my readers.
Do you prioritize your health?
Then she left us with another quote that emphasized Adrina's presentation, balance is key.
"Taking time to do nothing often brings everything into perspective."
Doe ZantamataMrs. Gibson was the last speaker for the week and she did a brilliant job of encouraging us to present our best selves in public speaking, trusting our knowledge, skills and abilities through preparation.
I called this blog "Expectations" because this week I was given two assignments, one by Micro Macro and my interning organizing. They are trusting my abilities and I must show them, what I am made of. These seminars have made me confident in myself and the lessons learned are ones that are perennial.Again, shoutout to the new bus driver for the Silver Sands route on weekday mornings!
